The year is 1892. Frans Kempe is about to build the largest and most modern sawmill in Europe. He is also going to build an experimental community. The place he chooses is Norrbyskär, some skerries along the northern Swedish coastline. The big industry and the society will exist for nearly 60 years. Interviewes with people who lived on Norrbyskär, when the mill- and society-builder and mighty industrialist Frans Kempe built up the large industry of Modo.
