The world was created four and a half billion years ago. It is at first barren, but life arises from the water, feeding on the sunshine. Many animals are created and dinosaurs rule until a gigantic meteor disrupts the climate and the huge animals all die. Mammals take over, and one day an ape extends the function of his arm with a club: Man is metamorphosed. And man builds houses, hunts animals and cultivates land. But he also catches other human beings, sacrifices animals and people to the gods, invents war, income tax, politicians, the professional army, written language, democracy and philosophy.
