Dennis Philip Edward Lingwood of South London, born in 1925, immersed himself into the world of Western literary classics at an early age. Yet at sixteen he discovered that at heart he was a Buddhist. Having served in India during the Second World War, he became a monk in 1949. For many years he wandered all over India, meeting with yogis and holy men.
