The painter Eser Afacan is an artist of international standing. As a young man Afacan came to Norway from Turkey to study at the university. He also had a strong desire to paint and met the Norwegian artist Odd Nerdrum. Problems relating to his residence permit made his early stay in Norway difficult and evidence of that can be seen in his paintings. During the years since he became Nedrum's pupil he has developed into one of the foremost classical painters in Norway.
