Chris Marker, one of the great men of documentary film making, has after several years' silence made another masterpiece. In The Last Bolshevik he describes his personal relationship with the subversive Russian film director, Alexander Medvedkin. At the same time the film is an absorbing reckoning with socialism as it has been pratised. Marker, known for his left-wing films, has always been a spokesman for freedom in its most profound sense. After the film's world premiere in Helsinki, the daily Helsinki Sanomat wrote: "... possibly the most wonderful film Chris Marker has made so far".
