An uprising took place in 1921 at the Kronstadt naval base outside St. Petersburg, when the sailors demanded an end to Bolshevik rule. The uprising was brutally put down and 8,000 people fled to Finland. The film follows the assimilation of the refugees and their children into Finnish society.
