Slavery has existed in Mauretania, in western Sahara, for hundreds of years. The children of slave women belong to the slave owners and are raised as slaves. Bilal is a sixteen-year-old boy. He was two years old when his mother escaped and left him with the owner. Now he has escaped himself and found his mother in a slum in Nouakchott, the capital city. This film, made in secret, is the first anyone has made about slavery in Mauretania. The film team pretended to be tourists - in a country with no tourism.
