Bolt is tired of being alone and wants a friend. Neither the magpie nor the cat next door turns out to fit the bill. Bolt wants to be friends with Bastian, the coolest dog on the block, but the feeling is not mutual, and Bolt has to run away, fast. Bolt eventually realizes there has been a friend with him all the time.
