The Aztecs saw death as a continuance of life, a journey to other levels. On the Day of the Dead souls return as butterflies. This is the most extreme of the many fiestas that crowd the Mexican calendar. Children eat chocolates in the shape of coffins and families picnic on the graves of their relatives.
