About a girl growing up separated from her twin brother. The twins, a boy and a girl, were born in Helsinki in 1945, before war engulfed Finland. The ties between the siblings are strong, until they are separated at the elementary school with separate classes for boys and girls. The events take place in working class Helsinki, and the film also depicts the changes there from the 1950s to the 1970s.
