Nayiani is 14 when she sees her future husband for the first time. Her father has promised her to Lekumok, the son of a good friend. Eventually, Lekumok brings home more wives: his herd of cattle is now so large that he both needs, and can afford, additional women. For 15 years, filmmaker Stig Holmqvist monitored Nayiani’s and Lekumok’s marriage where they live, on the southern Kenya savanna. In that time, the lives of these people have changed dramatically; the shadow of Nairobi is creeping ever nearer.
