The elk hunt is a revered ritual for the village of Engerdal in Norway. The chase for the king of the forest bonds the hunters and is the highlight of the year for the village. Sigrid has moved home after studies in Oslo and hunts with her father, but is ambivalent about killing such a beautiful animal. Halvard and Nelly are seasoned hunters with other challenges.
