Raroia - The Paradise Island

Raroia - Den lyckliga ön

The story of a happy island and the ‘new sun’ which turns out to be an evil dragon. In 1961, the little Polynesian atoll of Raroia was a paradise. Film director Torgny Anderberg and a Swedish film team lived with the islanders for eight months. But in 1966 a “new sun,” an atomic bomb, rose over this paradise. Many Polynesian island families moved to Tahiti to work for the French nuclear industry and many were to wind up in slums. In 1995, Torgny Anderberg returned to Raroia to see what had happened to the once self-sufficient island.
