There is an old royal castle in the Danish countryside with fancy wallpaper, grandiose chandeliers and mirrors from Venice. But the kings are gone. Today the castle houses senior citizens in a rough cross-section of society. It is the scene for a clash between past and present and between the sublime and the ordinary. A film about hierarchies, and being trapped between tradition and modernity in one of the world's most egalitarian societies.
