The film operates along three interwined aesthetic paths: A documentary narrative in which appear actors and colleagues who worked with Dreyer. Secondly, cuts from Dreyer’s films that illustrate, clarify and exemplify the individual narrative strands. Thirdly, the expressive form of narrative and what is really the leitmotif of the film: Dreyer’s own statements about his metier as a filmmaker.
