My Dinner With …

Ísold Uggadóttir and Christoffer Boe

Sun 20 Sept 16.00 / Panora 1

“My Dinner With…” is a mainstay at Nordisk Panorama – Nordic Short & Doc Film Festival , each year presenting new and exciting encounters between filmmakers of the highest caliber. The name of the event is borrowed from Louis Malle’s amazing film My Dinner With Andre (1981) and it brings together renowned filmmakers for a meal to talk about their lives, their creative work and experiences in the film industry

Christoffer Boe  – a well known Danish film director and screenwriter is having dinner with Icelandic director Ísold Uggadóttir!

Christoffer Boe has written and directed 3 short films, 6 feature films and is now working on his second TV series. He has several awards under his belt including the prestigious Caméra d’Or for his first feature film Reconstruction at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003, which he got just two years after graduating from the National Film School of Denmark.

Reconstruction, which is being shown at this year’s Nordisk Panorama, is about a young man’s obsession with a beautiful woman and finding himself trapped by his ideas of what love is. Reconstruction features Maria Bonnevie and Nikolaj Lie Kaas in the leading roles, and who also starred in Boe’s first short films at the film school; Obsession, Virginity and Anxiety. Reconstruction was designed to mark the final act of their working relationship and to create closure on their collaboration.
Since Reconstruction Boe has made an impressive lineup of films including: Allegro (2005), Offscreen (2006), Everything will be Fine (2010), Beast (2010), Sex, Drugs & Taxation (2013)

Nordisk Panorama has the distinct pleasure of presenting Boe’s latest feature film, the popular Sex, Drugs & Taxation at this year’s festival. Based on two of Denmark’s more colorful personalities, the film spans over decades and follows the antics of Spies Rejser Simon Spies known for his unrestrained consumption of women and drugs and the founder of the controversial Fremskridtspartiet, which was notoriously known for his ideas on tax evasion.

Ísold Uggadóttir is an award-winning Icelandic filmmaker based in Reykjavik, Iceland. She is a two-time winner of the Icelandic Academy Awards for Best Short Film.

Ísold’s films are very much a look on the society she lives in and of her own life. Her first film, Family Reunion is a modern day coming out story, after-crash Reykjavík in Revolution Reykjavík and a drug addict cleaning up in New York in her second short Clean. Her film Njálsgata takes on growing responsibilities of party-soaked young people in Reykjavík.

Currently, Ísold is developing her first feature film, And Breath Normally, produced by Zik Zak Filmworks in Reykjavik. At the edge of Iceland’s Reykjanes peninsula, two women’s lives will intersect – for a brief moment – while trapped in circumstances unforeseen. Between a struggling, young Icelandic mother and a Ugandan asylum seeker, an intimate bond will form as both strategize in private – to get their lives back on track.
